Folate Deficiency

Vitamin B12 or B9 (commonly called folate) deficiency anaemia occurs when a lack of vitamin B12 or folate causes the body to produce abnormally large red blood cells that cannot function properly.

Red blood cells carry oxygen around the body using a substance called haemoglobin.

Anaemia is the general term for having either fewer red blood cells than normal or having an abnormally low amount of haemoglobin in each red blood cell.

Iron Deficiency

Iron deficiency anaemia is caused by lack of iron, often because of blood loss or pregnancy. It’s treated with iron tablets and by eating iron-rich foods. Iron deficiency, often leading to iron deficiency anemia.

It is a condition where the body lacks enough iron to produce sufficient healthy red blood cells. These red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body, and a deficiency can cause fatigue, shortness of breath and other symptoms.

It’s a common condition, particularly among women, children and those with certain medical conditions.

Why Have I Had a Lipid Test?

A lipid test measures the fats in your blood, including cholesterol and triglycerides. These levels help assess your risk of developing heart disease or stroke. Your results are considered along with other risk factors to calculate your QRISK score.

What is QRISK?

QRISK is a tool recommended by NICE and used across Wales and the UK to estimate your risk of having a heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years. It uses factors like age, sex, ethnicity, blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, and other health conditions to calculate this risk.
